Trial methodology peer review and data analysis

For a period of 4 months Brisbane Airport has been undertaking a trial project at their international security checkpoint. The trial consists of security scanner equipment and a CT machine operated at standard 3 integrated in an automated security lane.

Point FWD delivered a conclusive peer review document which validated Brisbane Airport´s trial approach. We complemented this with several specific findings related to data methods and data collection points.

Point FWD’s validation has provided Brisbane Airport with the confidence over their current trial approach. Next to this Brisbane Airport is able to steer the trial project while undertaking it. Ultimately this enables the airport to be better prepared for the next phase of the implementation project.

Functional design based on process insight

The airport’s challenge was about coming to several functional designs of its future process, thereby knowing for what to specify in a new security checkpoint design. This included CONOPs, lane dimensions, image review concepts and eventual lane position in the available checkpoint spacing.

Point FWD started this challenge by defining the baseline checkpoint performance. This was done by performing thorough data captures at the central security checkpoint, directed at process times, alarm rates & resolution times, passenger profiles and tray content analyses.

Potential EDS CB integrated lane designs have then been delivered based on modelling, and were complemented by Point FWD’s process design tools and principles (e.g. lane builder, bottleneck guidance). With these functional designs, Rotterdam the Hague Airport has been able to specify its essential input to lane developers for potential security lane designs.

Our client aims to closely tie its design process to local requirements and -dependencies, therewith being able to customize its solution for optimized performance.

Point FWD supports the integrator in assessing the local situation of the airport by capturing process data, and modelling the impact of fundamental design decisions on eventual operation of its integrated lane solution. This allows our client to ultimately deliver an integrated lane solution with a well-balanced functional design.
